A luncheon to celebrate the Melbourne Cup and to raise funds for Umoja, was held on November 1st, in Windsor, Australia. The Rotary Club of Kurrajong and North Richmond organised the event and worked tirelessly to make the day a huge success! Fun and games interjected a delicious lunch and the raffles, auction and hat parade were all presented by an excellent MC, Mr Rob Ewin. Patrick Clifton read a letter from Arusha addressed to the Rotary Club. Thank you to Peter and Helen Webb and all the Rotary members who worked on and behind the scene, raising $3,100 on the day and for their continued support for the students at The Umoja Centre.

With the new year fast approaching, so is the start of the new Umoja term! In January 2012 we will be offering 40 really deserving young people the chance of a free education and thus a brighter future!
Isaya is a 2010 graduate of Umoja and an exceptionally clever one at that! He was a student of the intermediate group and particularly enjoyed his Key Skills and English lessons. Now, at the age of 25, Isaya wishes to enroll at the ‘Arusha Institute of Accountancy’ to fulfill his dream of becoming an accountant.
Recently we have been encouraginging the students to explore their creative talents. Many of the students at Umoja have never had the opportunity to explore art before so this has been an exciting opportunity for them.
