Currently there are many areas in our daily operation where immediate funding is needed. Funding for the following will not only benefit the centre in general but most importantly, it will have a direct benefit on the students. If you are interested in part or full funding one of the following, please email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . All of the goods listed are available for purchase locally.
Food for Students
At The Umoja Centre we are currently providing some of the much needed nourishment required for our student’s physical and emotional well-being.
Arusha, where the centre is located, often suffers from prolonged periods of extensive drought, leaving families in poverty zones in dire need of food. Lack of employment opportunities and poverty all year round, also force families and individuals to go without sufficient food and clean drinking water on a daily basis. We offer all our students one plate of filling, nutritional food, so that they receive at least one hot meal a day.
We currently have funding for two of the five days in the school week, but desperately need to secure funding for the other three days (that we are funding through our overall running-costs at this time).
Land and Building
As The Umoja Centre continues to grow and expand, we wish to realise our vision as not only an educational centre for students, but also as a general information centre for the community as a whole. Ideally, the Centre will grow to provide not only traditional library services, but also will serve as a means for putting citizens in touch with sources of information related to health, rights, and resources to help them start their own businesses.
Ensuring The Umoja Centre is a fixed and sustainable project, we aim to place 90% of students from each yearly class into jobs or sponsored ongoing education within six months of completing the programme. We hope to increase student capacity and the facilities we provide to aid in their learning. Eventually up to 10 members of the local community will be employed.
We have had qualified Constructers and surveyors out to find a suitable two acre plot that it is suitable and safe for our projected project to build, dependant on securing the necessary funding. When the funding is secured, we can purchase the land and begin to build.
Solar Panels
At the Umoja Centre we are concerned not just with individuals, but also the wider context of our activities. Our long-term aim is to achieve social and environmental sustainability through numerous initiatives. Amongst these planned activities is the acquisition of solar panels - enabling us to make a large step toward environmental sustainability as well as setting an example for the wider community.
